Beta Chapter started the year with a dinner in January in honor of Brother Rufus D. von KleinSmid, president of the University of Southern California and a member of Delta Chapter. Brothers R. S. Parker of Delta and A. W. Legg of Epsilon, delegates to the national convention, were present and expressed the fraternal greetings and good wishes of their respective chapters. From the remarks of Brother Parker on the shipping facilities of Los Angeles, it was evident there were still a few things about southern California we had not heard.
National President Charles Hodges and Dean A. Wellington Taylor spoke, as did Brother C. C. Batchelder of Alpha.
The theme of Brother von KleinSmid's splendid address was the mission throughout the world of university men and the opportunities awaiting them for the promotion of the worthwhile things of a high civilization.
The chapter officers for the ensuing year, elected at the annual meeting on February 15, are:
The new officers were installed on March 7.
The retiring president, Brother George W. Stretch, in his farewell speech, after reviewing the work and accomplishments of the year being brought to a close, said:
"We are all prone to stress the spectacular and obvious achievements and to overlook those things that seemingly are not material. Notwithstanding the achievements already mentioned, there is still another accomplishment which, while last is by no means least. To me the most noteworthy feature and the outstanding accomplishment of the past year - one which in deep significance and real importance far transcends anything I have previously referred to - is the excellent fraternal spirit and the high degree of good-will and brotherly love that are apparent in Beta Chapter today. To an organization like ours such feeling of brotherhood and affection is fundamental and vital, and without it we cannot endure."

Brother Bayer expects his claim to be hotly contested in some quarters, but states he can prove whereof he speaks.
