On September 26, 1925, Beta re-located to its third home, at 39
East Tenth Street, with newer and better quarters, where it could take
care of out-of-town brothers wishing to stop in New York. The rent
was $110 a month. Bro. George Stretch, Be-'21,
at the time wrote: "The boys have a new house. I think the
move a good one...Now we have a real apartment with real
sleeping rooms, which afford more privacy for living and study. I
always felt it was something of an imposition to ask a man to live in
the other place, as there was no privacy there whatsoever; in fact,
there was not even a decent place for a man to hang his clothes. We
have several fireplaces, and several rooms, open together, are large
enough for meetings. Ordinarily, such a place would be out of the
question at the money. The only reason for it is that the house is an
old one and in a thoroughly business section, one might call it a
manufacturing section. But we cannot have our cake and eat it too, so
we have to overlook the surroundings, although the place is most
convenient to the School of Commerce and all transit
facilities."

That same month, in the words of Bro. Zimri
Oseland, Be-'21, Beta "took the bull by the horns and
designed & had executed their own 'official' hat band." As
Bro. George Stretch had earlier (May 15, 1925)
written, "in this town practically everyone of any account
wears a colored hat band, on his straw." Beta's bands
certainly were impressive: black background, a medium green band in
center (about one inch wide), small black bands on either side of the
green band, then small gold bands next to those small black bands,
and finally black bands at top and bottom. The new hat bands were
sold for $1 each.
